I know nothing about palmistry but this discipline has
always fascinated me. When I was a young girl my mother went to a Palmist and
he happen to say all the things very correctly. My ma’s blind faith on that
fellow mesmerized me. I have seen my parent never believe in any superstitions
ever, though they are believer of GOD and GOOD.
What science is this which can tell our future on based on
the lines on the palm! Makes me feel like, we are open books. Thank goodness,
that most people do not know how to read the manuscript.
But science it is!! And
yet a mystery.
The best part is the art of palm reading has its roots in
Hindu Astrology. The Hindu Sage Valmiki is thought to have written a book entitled
"The Teachings of Valmiki Maharshi on Male Palmistry”, comprising 567
stanzas, about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. Among the Hindu sages who propagated
this art include Garga, Gautama, Bharadwaja, Agastya, Bhrigu, Atri and
Kashyapa.
It is believed that from India this art is spread to China (Yijing), Tibet, Egypt,
Persia and to other countries.

Ancient
India was really brilliant!!
According to Hindu philosophy, a person takes birth according to
his / her past actions (karmas). As Human beings differ in shape, features,
constitution, etc., so do the lines on the hands so that the ridges on the
thumb and papillary lines on the fingers and the thumb do not agree with those
on any other thumb and fingers even from amongst 100 Crores of people!
Wow!!!
There are various schools of believe on which palm to read. Some assumes
that the left hand shows potential in an individual, and the right shows
realized personality. Some says "The
future is shown in the right, the past in the left"; "The left hand
is the one we are born with, and the right is what we have made of it";
"The right hand is read for men, while the left is read for women";

Palmistry is a science related to human Psychology. It is a
study of the mind (mann). For many years Prof. Dyanand and Mrs. Nisha Ghai have
been doing research in the field of palmistry. According to them, it is a study
of the unconscious mind and has a close relationship with our brain and
thinking power. Fingers connect the human body with the outside world. They
work as a transmitter to spread the electrical currents or thoughts of our mind
generated in the brain to the environment. In the same way fingers also work as
receivers of electrical signals from the environment to the brain. These
electrical currents or our thoughts help in the changing of lines and thus

I really wonder how many really know the art of Palmistry
though. How far can we really trust the modern palmist on this ancient art? This
is a science yet how much research has been done on this subject in India. Most
learned people have abandoned this science (except for few) and only the people
who believe in superstitions still believe in this science. May be its time we ancianite ourselves a little bit to realize how modern we were!!
