FRIEND

The sun is about to set

The day is about to end

And I remember you my friend

Everyday at this moment.

This was the time when we met,

This was the time we always played.

Now though I play, even you play

But far, far and far away.

Though the same sky covers our head

And the same sun now goes to set

But the distance is too far

To see each other’s face.

I look at the sky and bid sun good-bye

And you look up to

Welcome the silent night!

There, the stars twinkle over your head,

Here they pull the curtains over

The sun’s last rays.

The sky is the same where the eyes stare,

The thoughts are the same where the mind tears

But the pair of eyes are different

Where shines suppress tears,

To separate from a friend so dear.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FIRST POEMS, I WROTE IT WHEN I LEFT THE CITY OF CALCUTTA AND MOVED TO PUNE. SO IT WAS WAY BACK IN 1999 OR 2000. I RECOVERED IT FROM SOME OLD PAGES OF MY DIARY AND THOUGHT OF POSTING IT!!
