When we entered the city she was already groomed with lights. She was ready for her daughter to arrive - Durga with her children.

She is the reason for celebration for all the Bengalis be at home or away. She comes to Maika once in a year just for 4 days, its almost a wait of 360 days. Why shouldn't the celebration be big??
Bengalies are know for their rich art and culture and wont they show off the power of art to Godess Durga!
Every artist wait for this occasion to display the depth and vtolume of his art. Its an Art Exhibition in the entire city (and without any entry fee!!). Four days are never sufficient to appreciate the beauty created around her. Something is always left.
There is a lot of thought put in each artistic brilliance of this occasion. Sometimes a clear message is voiced through art. Above all its a pleasure to see the effort of people to create a heaven on earth. No wonder we feel tireless to walk around the city in the middle of night. And pushing around a kolkata crowd seems worth.
A visit through South Kolkata;

A visit through North Kolkata:
Its also a fashion parade all in new trendy cloths and loud make up!! Goddess should know every body is happy and well at her home. The 360 days that she lives under the Ganges with Shiva has not caused us any pain and problem.
Thats what at least my Mom told when we were kids.
Its time when we gift near and dear once with coths and varuables.
